Sep 5, 2007 : NTT Targets Japanese in Thailand

📅 - Mobile communications company NTT DoCoMo (http://www.nttdocomo.com) announced on Wednesday it has reignited plans to offer its data center services to Japanese companies based in Thailand through its fully-owned subsidiary NTT Communications Thailand. NTT DoCoMo previously offered data center services through a joint venture with Shin Corp (http://www.shincorp.com), known as ArcCyber, before the company dissolved in 2001.

There are about 300 Japanese companies in Thailand without data center facilities, says Hiromichi Ito, NTT Thailand's assistant vice president of sales and marketing. Ito says he expects up to 20 percent of these companies to switch over to NTT's service, adding that NTT would also look into seeking a Type 2 service provider license that would allow the company to provide leased lines and other infrastructure.

Although the service provider has the capabilities of offering such services, it does not own a network. NTT says its data center offers colocation and managed services, and is the first offering of its kind by a Japanese company. Its target customers are largely Japanese enterprises and Thailand-based multinationals.

The original joint NTT-Shin data center offering was announced in early 2001, but soon folded, resulting in existing customers migrating to Shin's other subsidiary, CS Internet. At the time, it was labeled as part of NTT's global data center plans.
