Apr, 2005 : Digital River Helps Firms Market to Europe

📅 April 6, 2005 - E-commerce company Digital River (digitalriver.com) announced on Wednesday that it has released a new online marketing program designed to help software publishers make a smooth transition into European markets.

Using the Starter Package Europe, software publishers can assess their sales potential in European countries and highlight areas with the most opportunity for marketability. Using these results, Digital River assists the client with a customized e-commerce site to launch their products in specific markets.

?Analysts estimate that by 2006 electronic software distribution will account for 40 percent of annual software sales in North America and even as much as 60 percent of sales outside of North America," explains Dave Alampi, Digital River's vice president of marketing. "Once publishers make this shift from physical to digital delivery and enter global online markets, they have to be prepared to compete against regional suppliers by localizing their marketing and sales efforts.? Included in the package are a complete market analysis and a product-specific Web site.

The Starter Package Europe deals with markets such as the United Kingdom, Belgium, Switzerland, Italy and Germany, among others.

Researchers from SophosLabs, Sophos' global network of virus and spam analysis centers, inspected messages received at its global network of spam traps from January 2005 through March 2005. The United States topped the list once again, producing an average of 35.70 percent of all spam during this timeframe.
