Jan 1, 2000 : Qwest Eyeing XO, Reports Say

📅 January 1, 2000 - Qwest Communications (qwest.com -> lumen.com) has entered into talks with XO Communications (xo.com -> akamai.com) after coming up short in its attempt to acquire telecommunications giant MCI (mci.com -> akamai.com), according to reports.

XO sells voice and data services to businesses and has a significant Web hosting portfolio highlighted by the Concentric (concentric.com -> akamai.com) shared Web hosting division.

Qwest has been determined to acquire a significant telecommunications asset because it is concerned it will have difficulty staying independent as the industry continues to consolidate.

Last year, XO outbid Qwest for long-distance carrier Allegiance Telecom.

Qwest and XO have declined to comment on the matter.
