📅 March 23, 2009 - Messaging solutions provider Concentric (concentric.com ) announced on Monday it has launched Concentric Business Messenger, an enterprise-class messaging and collaboration solution designed for small and medium sized businesses.

In November, the company launched its Managed Server service this week, a hosted service providing on-demand processing power, bandwidth and storage capacity, in a cloud computing environment.

Concentric Business Messenger enables employees to communicate more efficiently through real-time instant messaging.

Unlike free public chat services, such as Microsoft's MSN Messenger and Google's Gmail Chat, Concentric Business Messenger offers a secure solution encrypted with Secure Socket Layer.

"A growing concern for SMBs is the increase in instances where worms or viruses enter their network through a public instant messaging network," says Craig Collins, president of Concentric. "By using Concentric Business Messenger, SMBs can have the benefits of chat without the risks while enabling employees to stay connected in the office and on the go."

Concentric Business Messenger is a web-based chat program that runs independently of any email platform and requires no hardware or software.

It is fully integrated with the Concentric Gateway, simplifying administration and lowering operational costs when combined with Concentric email, web hosting, or suite of hosted IT services.

Users can add co-workers to their Business Messenger by selecting their names through the Gateway.

Concentric Business Messenger is based on the open standard XMPP for compatibility with a wide range of chat clients.

The solution offers a range of features, including a contact list with a simple point-and-click interface, an online status, secure chat rooms with SSL encrypted real-time messaging, and contact groups with profiles.

Concentric Business Messenger is bundled with Concentric's Hosted Microsoft Exchange for free, while many other Hosted Exchange providers charge extra monthly fees to offer comparable messaging capabilities.

Customers can also add additional users for $1 per user per month.
