👈 Official Responses: 0), the hosting business operated by XO Communications said this week that it had introduced a hosted Microsoft Exchange offering targeting small and medium-sized businesses.


The company, which already describes itself as a "large-scale email service provider," says it launched the Microsoft-based offering to "combine the productivity benefits of Microsoft Exchange Server 2007 and Microsoft Office Outlook with its enterprise-class applications hosting platform."

In an expanding market for software as a service, hosted email applications have become one of the more ubiquitous of the hosted applications, and Microsoft's Exchange platform has become among the most widely supported of the email applications.

Concentric intends to market the Exchange service to existing customers, as an additional email option, while offering it to new customers as either a stand-alone or packaged product.

According to the company, customers will be able to manage their hosted Exchange services and add-ons, add mailboxes and access customer support and professional services via a single online control panel.

"Our long history of providing security-enhanced and reliable email solutions enables us to deliver Microsoft's industry-leading messaging and collaboration software on one of the most secure and reliable applications hosting platforms available today," says Concentric president Barbara Branaman, in the press release announcing the new service. "SMEs can now enjoy the same level of functionality that large enterprises have, with the added productivity gains from the robust collaboration tools in hosted Exchange. And if an SME needs additional assistance, our professional services team serves as a 'pay-as-you-go' IT department."

Concentric says it will allow customers to mix and match between four different varieties of hosted Exchange, including browser-based Web Exchange, Exchange Value, Exchange Professional and Exchange Executive for prices ranging from $7.95 to $19.95 per user, per month.

The company has a dedicated page on its website describing the features of its various hosted Exchange products, all of which became available on June 15.

A Microsoft partner in several of its endeavors, Concentric reported in April that it had added an offering based on SQL Server 2005 to its hosting services.
