Apr, 2001 : Genuity Announces Enhanced Service Levels

📅 - Genuity Inc. (genuity.com), a leading provider of Internet infrastructure services and e-business network platforms, announced on Thursday that it had significantly enhanced its Service Level Agreements for its dedicated US Internet access customers.
At the same time, the company announced the availability of its OC-48 service intended to provide large businesses and Internet Service Providers with high-level bandwidth.
Genuity says its Tier 1 backbone, composed of a 17,700 mile optical network, will allow the company to offer the enhanced Service Level Agreements and OC-48 service to meet the increasing demands of its customers. The network uses 10 gigabit per second IP traffic running directly over fiber, and is designed to offer customers bandwidth that can increase along with their needs.
The company says its customers are pushing the envelope of technology, and incorporating the Internet into all aspects of their businesses, regardless of industry. Genuity says it intends to assist them in the adoption of new technologies.
The company's new Service Level Agreements include enhanced provisions for packet loss and domestic latency, with monthly averages for packet loss reduced from 1 percent to 0.5 percent, and network latency measure reduced from 65 msecs to 55 msecs. The company says the changes are intended to preserve its position as a market leader, and point out that the Service Level Agreement also includes a 99.97 percent uptime guarantee.
