📅 - Domain registrar DomainSite.com (domainsite.com) announced on Thursday that it would make available a series of two-letter, geo-specific domain names. They include us.com, eu.com, uk.com, cn.com, ru.com and de.com. The domains, made available through the registry CentralNic (centralnic.com -> fasthosts.co.uk), are available for another twelve countries as well. "Our names open up the entire domain space again and they work within the existing Internet infrastructure," says Joe Alagna, North American manager for CentralNic. "People all over the world want descriptive domain names that end in dot com, but most often they can't get what they want because the easiest dot com domains are taken. We not only give them a dot com domain, but we also give them a name that relates to their specific country or region. Our momentum over the past two years has been amazing." Dan Schindler, CEO of CentralNic, says major corporations like AT&T and Sharper Image have been registering these domains with CentralNic in order to protect their brands.

📅 - Name.com Joins VeriSign Network - Domain registrar Name.com (name.com) announced on Thursday it is offering its customers the ability to use strong, two-factor authentication from Internet infrastructure services provider VeriSign (verisign.com).
By joining the VeriSign Identity Protection Network, Name.com will be providing its customers with safeguards that expand on standard log-in methods.
Two-factor authentication combines the regular username and password log-in with a VIP security credential that generates a one-time password for every sign-on.
