Feb 3, 2006 : Time Warner Telecom Deploys Ethernet

📅 February 3, 2006 - Managed voice and data networking provider Time Warner Telecom (twtelecom.com) announced on Thursday it has deployed metro Ethernet services for five of Horizon Eye Care's metro facilities.

"Time Warner Telecom's metro Ethernet solution has enhanced our ability to run this medical practice more efficiently," says Rod Roeser, CEO of Horizon Eye Care. "Metro Ethernet gives us the capacity and scalability we will need to deploy new ophthalmology imaging, electronic medical record and voice over IP applications."

Prior to the Ethernet installation, Horizon Eye Care employees would store its patient's eye exam images onto DVDs and then courier them to other locations. Time Warner Telecom's 10Mbps connectivity between the five clinics now replaces this time-consuming task with on-demand electronic records transmission, providing all five facilities with almost instant access to their patient's vision records.

Horizon Eye Care also contracted colocation services at the Time Warner Telecom central office. The eye care service will migrate its data center infrastructure to the hardened central office, while maintaining a disaster recover environment at its headquarters location.
