Ciena Powers New ION Cable Between Indonesia and Singapore
📅 - Indonesia's ION Network is deploying Ciena's WaveLogic 6 Extreme optics on its new ION Cable System 1, a 2,000 kilometer Jakarta to Singapore route designed for up to 24 Tbps of end to end capacity. The network is due online by year end, adding another high capacity path across Indonesia's fast growing digital infrastructure market for operators.
The upgrade is less interesting as an optical equipment win than as another indication of where Southeast Asian network economics are heading. More cloud infrastructure, data centers and increasingly concentrated compute workloads are forcing carriers to extract substantially more capacity from fiber systems connecting Indonesia with Singapore, [...][... 📅 - Nutanix Gives AI Agents Controlled Access to Hybrid Cloud Ops - Nutanix has released an open source Model Context Protocol server for its Cloud Platform, giving enterprise AI agents and coding tools a governed route into hybrid cloud operations. The software connects tools including GitHub Copilot, Claude Code and Cursor to Nutanix Prism APIs, where access controls, auditing and operator oversight remain in force for production infrastructure tasks.
The product lands in a part of enterprise AI that is becoming considerably more consequential than chat interfaces. Once an AI assistant can issue infrastructure commands, retrieve diagnostics, stage workflows or generate executable scripts, the governance problem changes. A bad answer is inconvenient. A [...]
📅 - AZIO Plans 500MW Compute Campus Powered by Natural Gas - AZIO AI Holdings is developing a South Texas compute campus around behind the meter natural gas generation, with 11 MW secured and 6 MW already running Bitcoin mining workloads. The company says the 548 acre Atlas One site could eventually support another 500 MW, but that capacity remains unfinanced, uncontracted and dependent on permits and customer commitments.
The useful part of the announcement is not the 500 MW figure. Not yet. It is the decision to make power generation part of the data center architecture rather than wait for a utility to deliver capacity on its own timetable.
That is becoming a more serious consideration for AI infrastructure developers. High density compute is [...]
📅 - Rigetti Reworks Operations as Quantum Deployments Start Scaling - Rigetti Computing is reshuffling its management structure as more customers ask for quantum computers installed on their own premises, separating system delivery from processor development and creating a chief operating officer role. The move suggests a familiar problem for emerging hardware companies - building the technology is one challenge, delivering and supporting it repeatedly is becoming another entirely.
For Rigetti, that divide is arriving before quantum computing has reached anything close to mainstream commercial scale.
The company says customers are seeking systems ranging from its 9-qubit Novera machines to 108-qubit Cepheus-class systems. Until now, engineers were also [...]
📅 - NVIDIA AI Server Prices Rise Over 15% as Memory Costs Surge - NVIDIA is preparing price increases of more than 15% on some AI servers as memory costs surge, according to Bloomberg, exposing a new pressure point in data center economics. The increases are expected on systems shipping in early 2027, including configurations using Vera Rubin and Grace Blackwell chips, as HBM and server DRAM supplies remain tight globally.
The reported increases are significant partly because NVIDIA has had enough margin in its accelerator business to absorb plenty of component inflation without immediately passing it through. Now memory appears expensive enough to alter that calculation. Bloomberg reported that server manufacturers supplying large operators including [...]
📅 - AI Data Centers Drive Chip Spending to $1.6 Trillion in 2026 - Gartner expects AI data centers to absorb a growing share of global semiconductor spending, with the research firm forecasting total chip revenue of $1.6 trillion in 2026. For infrastructure buyers, the bigger issue is not the headline number. It is the widening cost footprint across memory, networking, power management, CPUs and optical interconnects across dense AI clusters.
The forecast points to a semiconductor market growing far faster than the underlying enterprise economy. Gartner expects worldwide revenue to rise 92% from $809 billion in 2025, before reaching roughly $1.9 trillion in 2027. Much of that acceleration comes from memory rather than another sudden doubling of [...]
📅 - AI and Cloud Expansion Run Into a Critical Engineering Gap - The infrastructure boom is running into a labor constraint that capital cannot quickly fix. Data-center operators, cloud teams and enterprise software groups are all struggling to recruit experienced specialists as AI workloads raise technical demands. The result is higher compensation, heavier consultant use and growing execution risk across projects that companies increasingly consider critical to expansion plans.
The numbers are coming from different corners of the market, but they point in the same direction. Uptime Institute says more than half of data-center owners and operators surveyed in 2026 had trouble finding qualified candidates, even as rack densities rise and outage costs [...]
