Hyperscale Data Centers Surpass 1,000, Now 41% of Global Capacity

📅 - The number of large data centers operated by hyperscale cloud companies has passed 1,000 and, according to new statistics from Synergy Research Group, they now make up 41% of the global capacity of all data centers. The remaining hyperscale cloud capacity is now housed in leased spaces, slightly more than half of which are in self-built data centers.

On-premise data centers have only 37% of total capacity, and non-hyperscale colocation accounts for another 22%. This contrasts sharply with the situation six years earlier, when on-premise facilities accounted for about 60% of data center capacity.
