The new point of presence also enhances the PEER 1 content delivery network powered by the company's RapidEdge technology. Now, PEER 1's CDN clients' Web content is cached on servers in Amsterdam in addition to the North American caching servers, so European end-users retrieve content from the much closer Amsterdam servers instead of from North America. This can reduce latency by 80 to 140 milliseconds, says PEER 1, meaning faster delivery of content, applications and media to end-users.
"Connecting to AMS-IX is an important part of the PEER 1 network strategy," says Mark Teolis, PEER 1's vice president of network and colocation. "PEER 1 customers from around the world benefit from the direct access that AMS-IX provides to the more than 200 other networks, Internet service providers and content providers that connect there. This improves the network's performance for all PEER 1 clients."
The Amsterdam POP is now live, and PEER 1 can begin to pick up new network customers in this location. The POP is located at SARA, one of four AMS-IX housing units.
