More Data Risk Inevitable for Firms Due to Internet of Things

📅 February 15, 2017 - With internet connectivity comes security risk, and with the advent and growth of the Internet of Things (IoT), more and more IT security professionals are concerned about increased security risk of connected devices. In a survey by Pwnie Express, more than 90% of IT professionals reported that connected devices “will be a major security issue this year,” while 66% said they “aren't sure how many devices are in their environment.”

Security programs are having a tough time keeping up with the IoT and the increased security risk introduced, and to further complicate matters, IT professionals aren't sure how to solve those security issues. Problems like IoT malware – an infamous example is Mirai – threaten to dismantle the Internet infrastructure without proper solutions in place.

“Last fall, Mirai was used to arm hundreds of thousands of webcams to attack the Internet infrastructure company Dyn. The result? A near shutdown of the internet for millions of Americans trying to get to their favorite websites.”
