Dec, 2016 : Amazon’s Refusal to Release Echo Data in Homicide Case


📅 - In the recent James Andrew Bates homicide case, the court asked to review the data collected by Bates' Amazon Echo device. Amazon refused the request two times, saying it would “not release customer information without a valid and binding legal demand properly served on us.”

That isn't surprising, considering the precedent set when Apple CEO Tim Cook refused to unlock the San Bernadino attackers' iPhone. Cook made the following statement on the matter: “We fear that this demand would undermine the very freedoms and liberty our government is meant to protect.”

The freedom and liberties afforded to American citizens will keep iPhone and Amazon Echo data secure and private – for now.
