📅 - According to research by IDC released Monday, software will become the largest category of IT spending by 2020, surpassing both hardware and services spending. As more businesses continue adopting cloud computing, hardware is seeing less spent.
Chris Chute, the vice president of Consumer Insights and Analysis said in a statement, “The Third Platform has disrupted traditional IT markets and how large organizations deliver IT services. For SMBs, the result has been largely positive: a stronger ability to compete with larger firms, more easily enter new markets, more quickly develop new products, and drive higher levels of employee productivity. Over the next three years, we expect IT solutions to drive business outcomes, and in turn further close the competitive gap between SMBs and enterprises.”

📅 - Global Hack Targets Deutsche Telekom Routers - Deutsche Telekom routers were hacked by Mirai botnet attackers using malware that interrupted customers' internet, TV, and phone services. The hack was perpetrated globally, affecting more than 900,000 of Deutsche Telekom's customers with service outages or disruptions since Sunday.
Thomas Tschersich, head of IT security at Deutsche Telekom, spoke about the attacks in a video message on Twitter:
“We saw attacks from the Mirai botnet that targeted customer routers globally. The attack led to the devices crashing.”
For the most part, the issues with the routers has been resolved after the carrier updated the affected devices' software and installed filter mechanisms to prevent future issues

They were a victim of a global malware attack targeting household devices. Thousands of customers experienced issues with TV, internet and phone service due to the attack.

📅 - Amazon Unveils New High Tech Cloud Services - With Amazon's cloud computing revenue expected to top $10 billion this year, the company has announced some new cloud computing products. On Wednesday, Amazon introduced Polly an image recognition service and Lex a speech-to-text service.
The products were introduced on Wednesday at the company's re:Invent conference by Andy Jassy, the CEO of Amazon Web Services unit. The event was the 5th annual and drew 32,000 attendees from many different sectors of the tech field.
