📅 - A debate has been going on recently about who really controls the internet. Senator Ted Cruz wants a policy rider added to a funding bill to ensure NTIA has to extend the contract of IANA for another year. However, many are in support of the IANA Transition stating the internet isn't the property of the US or anybody else.
Many stakeholders believe that blocking the IANA Transition only benefits China and Russia. Others believe there shouldn't need to be congressional approval to make it happen.

📅 - Public Sector Cloud Spending to Increase - According to MeriTalk's latest report, 82 percent of public sector agencies will increase cloud computing spending in 2017. The report, released Monday, indicates public sector cloud adopters nearly doubling their cloud use from 35 percent to 60 percent.
Although, the biggest challenge facing public cloud adoption is security. More that half of the respondents said that their agency or institutions have security or privacy concerns. This drives most government cloud adopters to go private. 64 percent of Federal agencies use private cloud, and state and local agencies use 54 percent.

📅 - Microsoft Data Center to Block Blackouts - The energy being used by the Microsoft data center in Cheyenne, Wyoming is quickly approaching the 35MW (megawatt) mark. To help ensure the site can continue to grow, Microsoft and its local energy provider, Black Hills Energy, have come up with a creative agreement.
The agreement, signed earlier this year, stipulates that Black Hills Energy will buy enough energy that the data center needs at any given time, and Microsoft will utilize it's natural-gas-powered backup systems during times of peak load on the grid. The end result, a mechanism to prevent blackouts which may be caused by energy shortages.

📅 - More Than 554 Million Data Hacks Reported - In the first six months of the year, there have been 554 million data record breaches globally. The most common form is identity theft.
According to the latest Breach Level Index by Gemalto, there has been a 15 percent increase over the previous six months. Gemalto has been keeping track of publicly disclosed data breaches since 2013.
North America accounts for a majority of the reported incidents at 79 percent, trailed by Europe with 9 percent, and the Asia-Pacific region at 8 percent.

The sale was delayed after the U.K. decided to leave the European Union, but Host Europe is now working with advisors for the sale of the domain.

These are just a couple of the new developer tools announced from the company at the JavaOne Conference. The new support and products will allow developers more flexibility with databases, languages, environments and operating systems.
The company also announced a Bare Metal Cloud Service, which will provide a Virtual Cloud Network. This will allow customers faster throughput and IOPS than other competitors and at a lower price.
