Jul, 2016 : NRDC States They were Off on Data Center Energy Estimates


📅 - The Natural Resources Defense Council, a well-known United States activist group, has recently admitted they were off on the 2014 estimates for data center energy consumption. The government stated that the data centers in the US used about 70 billion kilowatt-hours of energy in 2014, which was about 6.4 billion less than what the NRDC estimates for 2011 and about 21 billion less than they estimated for 2013.

The director of the High Tech Sector Energy Efficiency, Energy and Transportation program for the NRDC, Pierre Delforge, stated the discrepancy between the numbers in a blog post recently. He stated that the NRDC uses the best available data, but didn't state how big the discrepancy was.
