ISP Responsibilities Outlined by New FCC Privacy Rules for Customer Data

📅 - ProPublica recently outlined the new FCC privacy rules, which have been proposed for ISPs. These new rules are aimed at updating consumer privacy protection, but could cost the user a premium.

The five main rules include:

Must have permission to share customer data with third parties
Name, ID number or phone number can't be linked to network activities
Unencrypted data is still fair game since the proposal doesn't cover content
Users will be required to opt-in for cookies
A more private version of the high-speed plan from AT&T an still be sold at a higher price

The new proposal has made some consumers rights groups happy, but hasn't made any ISPs very happy.
