Low Power Density, even with Huge Scale from Facebook Data Centers

📅 - Facebook launched its' first data center with the intent of building and designing it themselves. Now they have several data centers in rural Oregon have learned as they've gone along with the design.

They did open source some of the data center design innovations through the Open Compute Project. The design they use now provides more efficiency through disaggregation, which has allowed the company to scale without any increase to the power density.

The software and infrastructure teams have completely rethought the methods they use regularly to help keep the data centers low-density. This, along with the advances made with processors and other technology have helped Facebook do more with less power.
