Dec 19, 2006 : Savvis Deploys Cisco Network Parts

📅 - Network operator and managed Web hosting provider SAVVIS (savvis.com) announced on Tuesday that it will deploy a next-generation Internet protocol network based on Cisco (cisco.com) products and services.

SAVVIS says the new network will enhance its global application infrastructure and enhance its ability to provide IT infrastructure as a service. The network will provide integration of network and hosting infrastructures tuned to each application's needs; an architected service provider model that connects network and hosting services to virtualized applications and systems; rapid provisioning of network-based services; MPLS core services combined with high-speed access; and end-to-end monitoring and management providing application-specific SLAs.

"The combination of Cisco technology and SAVVIS' global server, storage, network, security, and hosting infrastructure, enables a new service provider model that complements and extends current enterprise IT systems and truly delivers 'IT infrastructure as a service,'" said Phil Koen, chief executive officer of SAVVIS. "It improves application performance and lowers overall costs presenting a compelling alternative to traditional approaches."

The new network infrastructure will be based on a combination of the Cisco IP Next Generation Network service provider architecture using Cisco CRS-1 routers and Cisco Internetworking Operating System XR software at the core and Cisco 12000 Series routers as edge platforms, along with the Cisco Service Oriented Network Architecture.
