Mar 11, 2009 : AIS to Extend Network into Data Center
Last November, the company acquired Complex Drive, which spans 20,000 square feet of space in three data centers in the San Diego Spectrum business park, to help deliver carrier-neutral data center solutions to the local market.
The data center is comprised of eight Tier 1 backbone connections and hundreds of private peering connections, providing AIS customers with "unparalleled connectivity from within any of the now three AIS facilities," according to the press release.
Each of the three data centers is directly connected to a range of Tier 1 broadband provider, so that each facility has the ability to operate independently.
There is also a private 10Gbps ring backed by enterprise class Cisco SONET switches that connects each facility, and in doing so, allows access to additional carriers and even greater redundancy.
After months of speculation, Cisco recently announced it would enter the server market, and will unveil next week its new strategy to help customers build more efficient data centers.
Once fully integrated, the new facility will have the same network capabilities as all of the other data centers within the AIS network.
The company will install 588 strands of dark fiber to provide fully redundant and diverse physical paths between the new data center campus and the nearby AIS headquarters located on Lightwave Avenue.
"For years the AIS name has been synonymous with uptime and reliability," says Chris Orlando, former Complex Drive president and newly appointed director of strategic channels at AIS "Combine that proven track record with the unique physical attributes offered by this new Data Center campus, and this property is set to be another shining star in the AIS family."
The company says that it will have fully integrated the new data center into its network once it terminates the fiber ring and installs the new network hardware.
Although AIS can not confirm an exact completion date for having the new facility and network completely integrated, the company's engineering and facilities teams are aiming to have the new fiber ring working by the end of March.
AIS currently owns and operates multiple carrier-neutral data centers in San Diego, designed as technology fortresses with N+1 or greater redundancy in bandwidth, power, HVAC, fire suppression, and security.
