Feb 24, 2009 : Verizon Completes SAS 70 Type II
📅 - Telecommunications provider Verizon Business (verizonbusiness.com) announced on Tuesday it has successfully completed its annual Statement on Auditing Standards number 70 Type II examination for the fourth year in a row for the company's remote IP application management centers in San Francisco and London.
Last week, data center solutions provider Core NAP successfully completed a SAS 70 Type I audit.
Verizon Business uses the remote IP application management Centers to remotely manage and monitor its customers' global critical applications and infrastructure.
Third-party auditor Moss Adams examined the centers, closely reviewing and testing the control environment and corresponding internal controls for the monitoring and management services provided by Verizon Business.
Specifically, Moss Adams examined control objectives in the areas of organizational structure, governance and administration, physical and environmental controls, logical access controls, and system availability and performance.
Established by the American Institute of Certified Public Accountants, SAS 70 is a widely recognized auditing standard for service organizations to prove that they have adequate controls and processes in place.
The company also announced it completed the SAS 70 Type II examination for five of its IP application hosting centers in Germany, Japan, the US and the UK, and its 15 Internet data centers in North America, which is used to deliver IT services to large-enterprise and government customers.
This is the eighth consecutive year for examination of the company's Smart Centers in the US, the fourth consecutive year for its North American based Internet data centers, with the exception of its new Irving, Texas facility, and the first year for its international Smart Centers in Tokyo and Frankfurt, Germany.
The annual examinations are performed by Ernst & Young, which reviews control objectives and controls at the company's managed and Internet colocation data centers.
Specific areas of examination, which is conducted in compliance with the standards established by the American Institute of Certified Public Accountants, included access to facilities, logical access to systems, network services operations and environmental safeguards.
The accounting firm examined Verizon Businesses' control processes and procedures for all of its managed hosting centers, as well as 15 Internet dta centers in major cities across North America, including Atlanta, Houston and San Jose.
