Feb 11, 2009 : Bay Area Internet Building Data Center
📅 - In the second such announcement of the day, data center operator Bay Area Internet Solutions (bayarea.net -> vxchnge.com -> hostinger.com) reported on Wednesday that is will build a Santa Clara data center, even as the harsh economic climate has many data center companies halting or postponing building plans.
Earlier in the day, Texas colocation firm Cyrus One reported that it would add 81,000 square feet to an 80,000 square foot facility in Lewisville, along with expanding a Houston facility.
According to the press release, BAIS is building an 83,000 square foot facility in Santa Clara, a state of the art data center with the capacity to house more than 2,000 racks. The company also reports that the new facility "is being constructed with the latest in environmentally friendly technologies and equipment, including innovative architectural designs resulting in reduction of power consumption and pollutants."
BAIS says the major investment in the new facility demonstrates the company's dedication to meeting the growing IT needs of Silicon Valley companies.
"We are building one the most technologically advanced data centers in the world, including an unsurpassed and revolutionary cooling system design, which makes this facility a green data center show case," said BAIS president and CEO, Tom Wye, quoted in the press release. "Despite the economic downturn, Silicon Valley is still pressed for premium colocation space. Especially now, since other providers have suspended development of new data centers, BAIS will be able to offer a world class facility to any size enterprise for their mission critical systems."
According to the announcement, the facility is scheduled to be ready for occupancy in the fourth quarter of 2009.
