Jan, 2009 : Canada Web Hosting Intros Tenzing Division
According to the company's Wednesday announcement, "Tenzing" is a reference to famous Tibetan sherpa Tenzing Norgay, who, with Sir Edmund Hillary, first reached Mount Everest's summit. Like the expert mountaineer, the company aspires to provide "expert guidance and IT services to companies challenged with the delivery of enterprise-class business services over the Internet."
Its parent company, Canada Web Hosting, will continue to provide dedicated hosting services, and Tenzing will benefit from its operations in British Columbia and Ontario, where Tenzing has customer service centers. Tenzing also operates out of two datacenters which are among Canada's primary internet exchange points, 151 Front Street in Toronto (151frontstreet.com) and the Harbour Centre in Vancouver (vancouvercolocation.com).
"What sets Tenzing apart is our comprehensive approach to IT Service Management," Tenzing founder and chief executive officer Brian Shepard said in a statement. "We work collaboratively with our customers, step-by-step, to address the entire IT lifecycle. With more and more mission-critical business applications running over the Internet, we see that even intensive technical support is not nearly enough for most customers....They want a comprehensive and collaborative service that melds proactive IT service management principles with world-class IT infrastructure services to mitigate risk and maximize the value of their IT investments."
While Canada Web Hosting offered a similar array of services before, Tenzing's launch has expanded these services to include investment in the development an advanced hosting platform built around enterprise-grade Storage Area Network technology, and a self-healing vServer that seamlessly supports VMware, HyperV and Xen.
"Tenzing has developed a deep eco-system of partners and made very significant investments in facilities, tools, and processes so we can deliver a new level of service and proactively address every contingency a business might encounter," Tenzing chief technology officer Kelly Beardmore said in a statement. "These investments equip us to be very flexible and develop technical solutions that transform our IT services into a strategic advantage for our customers. Customers running complex e-commerce applications, web 2.0 applications or delivering business-critical SaaS applications will see significantly improved value."
In order to deliver best practices, Tenzing said it has assembled a team of ITIL-certified "technical account managers," who will deliver the company's "Summit with Tenzing" approach to providing guidance and support to customers.
While Tenzing could not be reached for comment prior to the publication time, it stands to reason that Canada Web Hosting would choose to brand itself with a more unique name with which to build a brand.
