Nov 10, 2008 : AT&T Extends E-commerce To SMBs

📅 - Communications giant AT&T (att.com/webhosting) has added e-commerce capability to its professional hosting services, offering enterprise-proven web services down-market to smaller businesses.

According to the company's announcement Monday, small and medium-sized businesses will now be able to benefit from AT&T's new professional services including support for site and database migrations, e-commerce site builds, database builds, expanded managed system and server administration, code-execution monitoring and third-party code debugging and support.

AT&T expects this new suite of services will transform the e-commerce marketplace, making waves for other SMB e-commerce solution providers with less complete service packages.

According to the company, the new services let SMBs easily add e-commerce features such as shopping cart applications, blogging capabilities for customer reviews and online payment solutions via PayPal. Customers also have access to a control panel with near real-time and historical reports showing Web statistics and system utilization.

The e-commerce services are the result of an extension of AT&T's $79.95 per month Web Hosting Virtual Dedicated Server starting and $349 Managed Dedicated Server launched in April, which gave SMBs an easy and cost-effective way to launch a new website or improve an existing site, sell products or services online, build an online community, manage company e-mail, distribute digital content, set up blogging applications, or even host a gaming server.

"Our professional hosting and web design services are the ideal solution for companies that want to take their businesses online but don't want the expense of running and managing servers, software and hardware," AT&T hosting and application services vice president Steve Caniano said in a statement. "What's more, small and mid-size businesses now can receive e-commerce support and best practices from highly trained consultants who are e-commerce experts with businesses of all sizes."
