Oct 15, 2008 : Any2 Exchange Adds 150th Member
📅 - Data center developer and operator CRG West (crgwest.com) has added its 150th customer at its Any2 Exchange Internet community in California since its beginning in 2005, making it now one of the largest, single point peering communities in the US.
According to CRG West's announcement late last week, The Any2 Exchange in California is now supporting members from 19 countries in Asia, North America and Europe in a setup similar to European Internet exchange point models. Any2 is a distributed Internet exchange point, interconnecting exchange switches in CRG West facilities in Los Angeles and the San Francisco Bay Area.
The Any2 Exchange offers members, which include ISPs, content delivery networks, entertainment companies, academic networks and enterprises, access to the exchange at speeds ranging from 100 megabits per second to multiples of 10 gigabits per second.
"The Any2 Exchange is providing our members a powerful utility, designed to improve their network performance by eliminating the use of 'transit' networks for local interconnections, reducing operational expenses, and providing additional network redundancy in the event of local or global Internet disruptions," said CRG West chief technology officer John Savageau, who was appointed in early September.
Earlier in October, CRG West announced plans of expanding its presence in downtown Los Angeles by 55 megawatts of power and 400,000 square feet of space.
CRG West has also been increasing its other operations in Southern California. It plans to build a 350,000 square foot, 20MW data center in Santa Clara. CRG West has also upped its efforts in the east, expanding its carrier-neutral Boston data center by 17MW at 70 Innerbelt, its data center in Boston. The company says it will also make another 130,000 square feet available and also add connectivity in its Miami facility.
Other Any2 exchanges are located in Chicago, New York, Washington DC, Miami and Reston, VA. These facilities currently offer exchange point services in single data centers. CRG West said it is "evaluating a similar distributed exchange model for the northeastern United States."
