Oct 3, 2008 : Equinix Hosts Tokyo Peering Forum

equinix.com logo📅 - Data center operator Equinix (equinix.com) announced on Thursday that it is hosted the Tokyo Peering Forum 2008 on Thursday, which focused on the influence of Next Generation Network on the peering ecosystem in Japan.

The event follows Equinix's previous announcement earlier this week where Japanese Internet exchange provider Japan Internet Exchange extended its peering fabric to the Equinix Tokyo-2 Internet Business Exchange data center located in Shinagawa.

Equinix continues to expand its network by signing new customers to its exchange centers located around the world. Last week, content delivery network CDNetworks joined the DE-CIX exchange at Equinix, providing CDNetworks and other DE-CIX customers access to Equinix's colocation services.

This was the fifth time the forum was held in Tokyo, which took place this year at the Mandarin Oriental Tokyo.

The popularity of high-bandwidth fiber-to-the-home services continues to grow. Combined with Web 2.0 services and multimedia content, these services have caused a significant increase in Japan's broadband traffic.

NGN, an integrated network which supports quadruple-play services and fixed-mobile convergence, provides solid reasons for the further development of the telecommunications market.

Representative from Intec NetCore discussed NGN's influence on the Japanese telecommunications market, as well as the emergence of a new generation of products that embed the IP reference model.

Japan Network Information Center explored the issue of the depletion of the IPv4 address availability in the Japan marke, offering immediate resolutions. Additionally, KDDI compared IPv4 and IPv6 from a network design perspective.

The surge of international traffic across the Pacific has also encouraged local players to explore interconnection opportunities with content companies and network service providers outside Asia Pacific.

Eric Troyer, director of peering services from Equinix, offered updates on peering trends and market dynamics in the United States and Europe, while Raphael Ho from Equinix Asia Pacific highlighted the new peering development in the region.

The Tokyo Peering Forum was chaired by Yuichi Ikejiri of NTT Communications, and will included speakers such as Eric Troyer and Raphael Ho of Equinix, Intec NetCore's Ikuo Nakagawa, Akinori Maemura from JPNIC and Masaru Mukai of KDDI.
