Feb 26, 2007 : The Green Grid Officially Launches
📅 - The Green Grid (thegreengrid.org), a non-profit, global organization focused on reducing growing power and cooling demands in data centers worldwide, announced on Monday it is officially open for business and is accepting new members for a fee.
The organization says there are two membership levels including a general membership for $5,000, which enables members to vote on organizational issues, receive the group's technical input, get access to IP licensing and participate in group events. There is also a $25,000 contributing membership, which enables members to participate in Green Grid work-groups and to contribute to the drafting of technical documents.
The Green Grid says it is also offering its first three white papers including an overview of the organization, guidelines and recommendations for energy efficient data centers and metrics that can be used for measuring data center efficiency short term.
The organization was founded in April 2006 by tech-industry giants including AMD, IBM, Hewlett-Packard, Sun Microsystems and Dell to help decrease data center and other IT facility energy usage patterns by defining and promoting best practices in data center operation, construction and design.
