Aug 19, 2008 : 3PAR Stores Demand Media's Data
📅 - Web 2.0 social media company Demand Media (demandmedia.com) has chosen utility storage provider 3PAR (3par.com) to support its rapidly growing social media business by providing flexible infrastructure, storage scalability and capacity utilization over the data lifecycle.
According to 3PAR's announcement Tuesday, Demand Media has deployed multiple 3PAR InServ Storage Servers, paired with 3PAR Thin Provisioning and 3PAR Dynamic Optimization software to provide storage to Demand Media's vertically-oriented social network.
Founded in 2006, Santa Monica, California-based Demand Media provides solutions to publishers, brands and retailers, including the Washington Post, Better Homes & Gardens, USA Today, Circuit City and The Economist, intent on connecting content creators and large audiences with advertisers.
Demand Media has also chosen to deploy an entire virtual data center based on 3PAR's 3cV blueprint, a complete utility computing environment combining 3PAR Utility Storage, and HP and VMware products.
"3PAR provides an easy-to-use, agile, highly-virtualized, and scalable storage platform for our database and VMware environment," Demand Media director of systems engineering Rich Brownlee said in a statement. "With 3PAR Utility Storage and 3PAR Thin Provisioning, we can now grow our storage environment easily and with complete confidence to meet the needs of our rapidly growing social media content business."
Technology acquisition consulting firm Clipper Group (clipper-group.com) director of IT architectures and strategies Anne MacFarland said innovative internet services need equally innovative technology that can keep up with rapid and unpredictable growth. "Web 2.0 companies are increasingly looking for more cost-effective ways to scale due to unpredictable and rapidly growing data storage requirements," MacFarland said in a statement. "3PAR Utility Storage and its 3cV blueprint provide the agility, flexibility, and scalability required by a dynamic and growing Web 2.0 business."
Demand Media's virtual data center includes the 3PAR InServ S800 Storage Server with 188 terabytes of storage and two 3PAR InServ E200 Storage Servers with 36 terabytes of storage.
