May 21, 2008 : SugarCRM Offers Data Center Edition

📅 - Open source customer relationship management software vendor SugarCRM (sugarcrm.com) announced that it had launched its "data center edition" Wednesday, including a new management console that will enable customers to deploy and manage multiple instances of the software.

The company says Sugar DCE will be delivered in a version for customers, and a version for partners. The partner edition is designed to allows SugarCRM resellers and hosting providers to provide the software in a software as a service model to their own customers.

Sugar DCE for enterprises allows large companies to manage multiple versions of the software from a single location. This lowers the cost of management, says the company, and enables greater customization.

"Sugar Data Center Edition addresses two major pain points in the enterprise software world," says John Roberts, CEO of SugarCRM, in the company's press release. "With the growth of software-as-a-service, partners are demanding more control over the management of CRM instances in order to serve their customers. Second, the single view of the customer for large companies is dead. Enterprises need the ability to create and manage multiple CRM instances to serve the differing needs of business units. Sugar DCE addresses these needs."

The company has set up an information page for the data center edition on its website.

Open source software is particularly popular among a certain segment of web hosting providers. On Wednesday, 1&1 Internet announced that it had joined Open Source Business Federation, based in Germany.
