Jan, 2008 : Accountability and Transparency Document Released

MARINA DEL REY, Calif.: The Internet Corporation for AssignedNames and Numbers today released a final draft of a key accountability documentthat has been amended to incorporate additional community input, includingthat of the Governmental Advisory Committee.

The Frameworks and Principleson Accountability and Transparency documenthas been in development since late 2006. The process began with a consultationthat asked the community for their views on improvements to accountabilityand transparency at ICANN. An issuespaper summarizing these comments wasposted in January 2007.Based on the feedback received and the input from theOne World Trust report on accountability and transparency,a draft set of Frameworks and Principles was released for comment in June2007.

A paneldiscussion and consultation session was conducted at the San Juanmeeting and a public comment forum was opened on the website.A summaryof the all comments received was posted.

ICANN held a further commentsession at its Los Angeles meeting and the Governmental Advisory Committeeprovided helpful advice on structuring the Draft Frameworksand Principles to better reflect ICANN's mix of accountabilities. Thisis reflected in the draft published today.

The Frameworksand Principles on Accountability and Transparency document [PDF,425K] has been posted for public notice prior to final consideration bythe Board.
