Shares in McAfee Soar On News of Partnership With Microsoft
📅 - Shares in security software maker McAfee.com Corp. (NASD: MCAF) have suddenly become a hot commodity this week after the company announced a strategic alliance with software giant Microsoft Corp.
The company's stock has jumped in active trading by as much as 54 percent in a single day this week. Shares in the company, which started the week at approximately eight dollars, closed at $12.50 yesterday.
McAfee said the deal will integrate McAfee's Web-based software products, including its popular anti-virus utility and firewall suite, with Microsoft's .Net servers. McAfee's software will also be integrated with Microsoft's "Passport" and "Hailstorm'" Web-based services. This means that all Passport and Hailstorm users - which include hundreds of millions of Hotmail users - will have access to a suite of McAfee utilities.
"McAfee.com is one of the largest subscription services on the Internet today, providing customers with high-quality security application services which are a perfect solution to build on the Microsoft .NET platform,'' said Sanjay Parthasarathy, vice president of .NET Platform Strategy at Microsoft. "McAfee.com has been delivering these key services for nearly two years, and in doing so has helped demonstrate that software can be successfully delivered as a service via the Internet. We are excited about collaborating with such a software-as-service pioneer."
