📅 May 28, 2001 - NETSEC, a Switzerland-based provider of security related services, recently announced the release of a new version of its network intrusion detection system, SPECTER, designed to combat the increasing number of denial of service attacks.

The new version 5.5 offers extended intelligence options, sophisticated DOS attack and flooding countermeasures, vastly extended web services and new incident statistics.

First released in February 1998, About 70% of all SPECTER systems are installed in the United States, about 25% in Western Europe. SPECTER is mainly used by universities, medium and large companies and government agencies. The product can be found at the company's Web site at www.netsec.net.
