Computer Sciences Corporation (CSC) Opens Houston Data Center
📅 - Computer Sciences Corporation (csc.com) announced on Wednesday the opening of its Houston Data Center, a world-class facility offering companies the flexibility to outsource server operations and other information technology services scaled to fit their needs.
The center offers clients high-bandwidth connectivity through the use of a Metropolitan Area Network. The network extends the reach of clients' local area networks by connecting with traditional wide-area networks. The data center, one of 23 major centers CSC operates worldwide, uses two providers to gain access to the MAN via reliable, high-speed optical fiber connections.
"This allows us to provide extremely high availability to our clients from the center," said Harold Hickman, vice president of Network Engineering Services for CSC.
The company's first customers to take advantage of the new center are Equilon Enterprises LLC, Motiva Enterprises LLC, Equiva Trading Company and Equiva Services LLC, joint venture companies formed in 1998 by Shell Oil Company, Texaco Inc. and Saudi Aramco. CSC has installed and now operates servers at the facility for the joint venture companies.
The new center, which is located at 3700 Bay Area Blvd., includes 10,000 square-feet, with an option to expand; state-of-the-art communication features; a 100-watt per square-foot power capability; redundant power feeds with diesel generator backup in the event of extended power outages; and a building designed and built to withstand a category 3 hurricane.
CSC, which opened its first Houston office in 1982, has about 1,000 employees in the area supporting a range of customers including Conoco, The BHP Ltd., Enron Corp., Compaq Corp., SYSCO, MD Anderson Cancer Center, Money Management International and Consumer Credit Counseling Service.
