Data Return to Manage Sony Playstation Racing Game Web Site
📅 - Data Return Corporation (datareturn.com), a leading global provider of managed hosting services, has been selected by Forma Communications to manage the promotional Web site for Formula One 2001, Sony Computer Entertainment Europe's latest racing game for Playstation.
Forma, the interactive multimedia solutions provider that is producing the promotional game site, recognized Data Return's pedigree in high availability application hosting, and judged it to be best placed to meet the complex technical requirements of the highly interactive Web site.
The Formula One 2001 Web site (scee.com/f1), allows players in 16 European countries to submit their time-trial laptime and see how they rank in national league tables. The 16 best national times then go into a playoff, and the winner will go to the U.S. to take on the winners from the rest of the world for the title of PlayStation Formula One 2001 World Champion.
To participate, players must register on the site and then enter their laptime in an encrypted code, which is given to them by the game. The site participants also have the option of submitting their time via SMS, thanks to an agreement with Vodafone. In addition, players can improve their laptime by visiting the driving tips section of the Web site, or set up a mini league with friends. The site went live on May 25 in the UK to coincide with the release of the game.
?We were given the task of choosing the best managed hosting company for Sony's Formula One 2001 Web site and Data Return had all the credentials we were looking for,? said Toby Borger, head of Sales & Marketing at Forma. ?As a leader in the managed hosting industry, they have unrivaled expertise in working with our application platform, and have impressed us with their professional, 'can do' approach. We found Data Return to be very cost-effective and flexible, which was important considering the project's tight schedule.?
?Data Return built, configured, tested and deployed the server architecture in the London data center within seven days,? said Borger. ?This flexibility was greatly appreciated as it helped us deliver the Web site project to Sony on time.?
Sunny Vanderbeck, chairman and CEO of Data Return, said, ?Forma put us to the test with the ambitious functionality they required from their Web site, both from a technical and customer service point of view. However, our deployment methodology and network infrastructure provided technically robust and reliable support for their applications within the tight time frame required, allowing them to concentrate on developing the front-end.?
