Jul, 2001 : BellSouth to Host Webcast From NAACP Annual Convention
📅 - For the fourth consecutive year, the National Association for the Advancement of Colored People (NAACP) and BellSouth Corporation (bellsouth.com) will provide live Internet broadcasts of key speeches and other activities from the NAACP's Annual Convention in New Orleans July 7-12.
Audio and video feeds, as well as a photo gallery of featured speakers and events surrounding the convention, will be available by accessing either the NAACP's Web site, (naacp.org), or BellSouth's site, (bellsouth.com/naacp) during the convention. Archived, on-demand video access of speeches and the photo gallery also will be available following the broadcasts.
"We welcome the opportunity to spread our message over the Internet to thousands of Americans who aren't able to attend the convention," said Kweisi Mfume, NAACP President and Chief Executive Officer. "The invaluable technological link provided by BellSouth helps us in our quest to reach out to all Americans with our messages and our vision."
BellSouth has a strong history of promoting equal opportunity and has been honored on several occasions by the NAACP for its commitment to diversity and inclusion. The NAACP ranked Bellshouth as the nation's top telecommunications company in its 1998 and 1999 report cards. In addition, BellSouth was ranked tenth on Fortune Magazine's 2001 "50 Best Companies for Minorities" list.
In 1999, BellSouth Chairman and Chief Executive Officer Duane Ackerman chaired the NAACP corporate campaign supporting the critical programs of the Special Contributions Fund in education, youth activities and voter education. Last year, Ackerman hosted a CEO conference entitled "Focus on Diversity Opportunities and Dilemmas," providing CEOs from Fortune 500 companies a chance to examine the opportunities and challenges facing their workplaces regarding diversity.
