Jul, 2001 : DSL.net to Test Copper Mountain Voice Gateway
📅 - DSL.net, Inc., a leading nationwide, provider of high-speed Internet access for small- and medium-sized businesses, announced yesterday it will initiate field testing of the Copper Mountain Networks, Inc. (coppermountain.com) VicinityVoice 100 Local Trunk Gateway in its existing network.
By incorporating the VicinityVoice Gateway, DSL.net will allow its existing network infrastructure to support voice capabilities over its DSL facilities.
"We will continue to aggressively pursue developing associations with top-quality providers such as Copper Mountain," Keith Markley, the president and COO of DSL.net said.
DSL.net offers customers a symmetrical digital subscriber line service that delivers high-speed Internet connectivity, web hosting, enhanced e-mail capabilities and more, using ordinary copper telephone wire. Unlike many other providers of DSL service, DSL.net is a facilities-based provider, which deals directly with its customers, affording businesses a single point of contact for the Internet access and services.
The VicinityVoice Gateway is designed to interoperate with Copper Mountain's CopperEdge DSL concentrators and CopperRocket MGCP-enabled integrated access devices, allowing broadband providers
to reduce the cost of transporting local phone calls between packet-voice customers and the public switched telephone network.
DSL.net currently expects the first phase of its trials to be completed by the end of September. Copper Mountain anticipates the VicinityVoice product to be generally available in Q4 2001.
