Palisade and eSoft Partner to Offer P2P Blocking Technology
📅 - Palisade Systems, Inc (palisadesys.com), announced today a partnership with eSoft, Inc (esoft.com), a leading provider of Internet security appliances, that will allow users to purchase "SoftPak" subscriptions to such services as firewalls and VPNs, that can block peer-to-peer software.
SoftPaks are new services, applications, and upgrades that can be instantly enabled via an innovative software download process engineered by eSoft. PacketHound SoftPaks will let businesses reclaim bandwidth, security, and employee productivity, as it can completely and effectively eliminate the use of programs like Napster, Gnutella, DoubleClick and iMesh, as well as RealAudio/Video, Windows Streaming Media, and Shoutcast on an organization's network.
eSoft now features a SoftPak for Palisade's R&D 100 PacketHound protocol management appliance, allowing customers to monitor or eliminate the use these emerging protocols and applications.
PacketHound logs (and optionally blocks) protocols and peer-to-peer technologies using the fundamental characteristics of the protocols themselves, an approach that Palisade says is virtually impossible to bypass. PacketHound is impossible to identify, locate, circumvent or dismantle, even for the most sophisticated hacker, and because it is passive software, it does not affect data throughput. PacketHound's reporting features provide data, charts and graphs that allow administrators to pinpoint problems by network, workstation, and protocol.
