Jul, 2001 : bayMountain Announces Disaster Recovery Solution

📅 - bayMountain (baymountain.com -> hostinger.com), a leading provider of complex Web and application infrastructure services, today announced a new a new disaster recovery and operational failover solution called secondSite.

secondSite is customizable, with flexible backup infrastructures to address a company's unique traffic and availability requirements. Its failover method involves a triggered mechanism that ensures a company's backup in times of emergency and maintenance (such as software and server upgrades). Cross-verification among geographically diverse monitoring nodes is performed to verify an outage. Upon verification, a trigger is activated to modify the traffic flow.
The trigger can also be activated manually to perform controlled testing or switching for maintenance purposes.
"In an increasingly competitive and heavily trafficked Web environment, companies are seeing the need for extra backup. A crashed server involves more than just downtime, it raises questions about a company's reliability," said Mark Wensell, president and founder of bayMountain. "With secondSite, we hope to provide our customers with the peace of mind that their critical operations and information are safe; when one site goes down another is immediately available to back it up."
bayMountain says this new initiative comes in response to customers' concerns about losing critical data and potential revenue because of hardware failure, software bugs and human error. According to IDC research, revenue for the backup, restore, archive and hierarchical storage management market is forecasted to grow from $2.5 billion in 1999 to $5.6 billion by 2004.
By providing "second-site" servers either at Tier-1 sites such as AT&T or Exodus, onsite at bayMountain or at the customer's location, companies are assured that their Web-based operations remain fully functional.
"secondSite's redundant architecture is unique to each company. Our goal is to ensure that their Internet-based operations will always be ready to use and we will work with each company to make sure that all of their needs are met," said Wensell.
