Tengtu Partners With Netopia to Launch Education Portal in China
📅 - Tengtu International Corp.(tengtu.com), a developer and distributor of multimedia educational and entertainment software andrelated services, and Netopia, Inc. (netopia.com), aleading developer of Web platform software, yesterdayannounced the launch of a new educational portal inBeijing, China.
The portal will target K-12 schools, students andtheir families. Tengtu will deploy hardware andNetopia's platform software in a new hosting center,and both Tengtu and Netopia will support the launch ofthe portal in August.
Tengtu has an exclusive contract with the NationalCenter for Audio/Visual Education of the PRC Ministryof Education to create and implement China's BroadbandEducation Resource Center, a national initiative toprovide content to computerized classrooms acrossChina as an ASP/Internet content provider. The goalof the PRC is to link all 800,000 K-12 schools inChina directly to the Resource Center and via theeEducation portal to each other by2006.
This high-priority PRC initiative will deliver thecapability to transform China's education system intoone of the world's most modern learning and teachingenvironments for K-12, professional and life-longlearning applications. The portal also supportsmulti-level functions for administrative ande-commerce applications.
The design and functionality of the eEducation portalusing Netopia's Web Platform results from the 18-monthcollaboration between Tengtu and its partners in Chinaand the Ministry of Education. The portal technologywill support not only the national Broadband EducationResource Center but local versions of the Centerthroughoutthe provinces of the PRC.
"The launch of the portal within the People's Republicof China will add online functionality to theTengtu/Microsoft 'Total Solution' software suitecurrently being installed in thousands of PRCschools," said Tengtu COO Greg Mavroudis. "The portalwill go live in September when schools re-open andbegin to generate significant additional revenues forTengtu beyond its software sales to schools underOperation Morning Sun and other initiatives."
