📅 - In a move meant to enhance the competitive advantages of the RLX System 324 Web server over 1U servers from bigger names like Dell and Compaq, RLX Technologies (rlxtechnologies.com) yesterday announced price reductions from 16 to 31 percent.
"Since we began shipping the System 324 in May, RLX has ramped-upmanufacturing, service and support infrastructures to insure customersatisfaction as we handle higher volumes," said president and COO MikeSwavely. "Those efforts are setting the stage for today's announcement,which complements the System 324 cost of ownership advantages over rackdense 1U servers from Dell and Compaq with lower acquisition costs as well."
The RLX System 324 Web server solution features the energy efficient RLXServerBlade design, allowing customers to gain significant new advantages:
5X to 10X lower power consumption 8X more servers in the same space 6X lower operational costs 4X the number of Web pages served per square foot of space
RLX says its System 324 is becoming the Web server solution of choice forInternet Data Centers, Web hosting companies and Internet companies that areunder increased pressure to reduce energy consumption, enhance space usageand increase operations efficiencies. With 24 RLX ServerBlades in a singlechassis and up to 336 servers in a single industry standard 42U rack,customers can gain unprecedented energy savings and data center density.

Customers can now buy an RLX System 324 with six ServerBlades ($6,999) for30 percent less than six comparable 1U DL320 servers from Compaq ($10,392)and three percent less than six PE 350 servers from Dell ($7,218). A fullchassis of 24 RLX ServerBlades is $26,511, which provides a 36 percent costadvantage over 24 DL32 servers from Compaq ($41,568) and 8 percent less than24 PE 350 servers from Dell ($28,872). The RLX price advantage grows asmore servers are purchased.
The announcement includes the first RLX ServerBlade below $1,000, aconfiguration that includes a 633 MHz processor, 128 MB of memory and a 10GB disk drive priced at $999.
RLX products are sold through the company's direct sales force and directlyover the Web at the company's site. The RLX System 324 is also availablethrough IBM's Web Server Division and to government customers through IES.
