Sprint E|Solutions Enters Collaboration With Sun and iPlanet


📅 - Sprint Corp. (sprint.com) announces that it now provides outsourced collaboration solutions using hardware from Sun Microsystems, Inc. (sun.com), plus messaging and calendar server software solutions from iPlanet E-Commerce Solutions (iplanet.com), a Sun-Netscape Alliance.

The new collaboration services enhance the Web-hosting offerings availablefrom Sprint E|Solutions. Earlier this year, Sprint E|Solutions and Sunannounced a strategic alliance of their sales and marketing teams to providean integrated Web solution for customers.
As part of its objective to enhance the infrastructure and applicationcomponents of the Sprint Application Infrastructure Management (AIM)platform, Sprint E|Solutions is working with Sun and iPlanet to enhancebusiness customers' end-to-end applications capabilities.
In addition to Sprint's Tier 1 backbone and Web hosting offered through itsInternet Centers, now Sprint AIM and iPlanet messaging and calendar serviceswill combine and offer leading software features such as applicationmonitoring and reporting; security; mobile commerce, and help desk support.

The iPlanet Messaging Server is a carrier-grade messaging solution,providing highly scalable messaging services. It also provides thefoundation for unified messaging services through the storage of email,voice mail, and faxes in one universal message store, accessible throughmultiple devices such as telephones and PDAs.
E-mail and scheduling software services continue to capture a significantfocus of IT resources and outsourcer services. According to Gartner Group,in 80 percent of cases enterprises with less than 300 users could save moneyby outsourcing e-mail.
The iPlanet Calendar Server provides a web-based solution for centralizedcalendaring and scheduling in enterprise and service provider environments.It also allows event-feeds that deliver important news directly to users'personal calendars, which can be accessed from any web browser.
Both servers are part of the Sun Open Net Environment (Sun ONE) offering for"smart" web services.
The e-mail and collaboration solutions utilizing the iPlanet Messaging andCalendar Servers are housed in Sprint E|Solutions Internet Centers,including the most current center, Dallas-Fort Worth, where a grand openingceremony was held yesterday.
