DirecTV to Connect With Last-Mile Carriers on NightFire Network

(http://www.directv.com), a nationwide provider of integrated broadband services for the home, announced today the company will implement NightFire Software Inc.'s hosted inter-carrier provisioning solution, the NightFire Network (nightfire.com). This technology will allow DirecTV Broadband to "e-bond" with last-mile carriers to share inter-carrier ordering and provisioning information, and ultimately reduce the time it takes to install a DSL line in a new customer's home.
"Consumer demand for high-speed, always-on Internet access and servicescontinues to skyrocket, but customers want to receive their service just assoon as possible," said Ned Hayes, president and CEO of DirecTV. "One of thebiggest challenges in meeting broadband demand is management of informationbetween different vendors throughout the provisioning process. This is thesecond major investment we have made to our customer care division in thelast six months - the first being an enhanced customer relationshipmanagement solution that will provide customers a faster and more efficientprocess of interfacing with our customer care representatives. DirecTV will use the NightFire DSL application to automate the ordering ofdigital subscriber line service from BellSouth, SBC Communications, Verizonand Qwest/U.S. West. The NightFire software application will help DirecTVBroadband quickly and efficiently deliver DSL service to new subscribers andmitigate errors in processing orders.
Most NightFire applications are available either for on-site deployment atthe customer's data center or through the NightFire Network, a premiumhosted service that eliminates the need for communications service providersto manage the infrastructure and connectivity. DirecTV will use theNightFire DSL application via the NightFire Network to help provisioncustomers from last-mile partners throughout the nation. In addition, withthe hosted solution, DirecTV Broadband can more efficiently track and manageall the changes to the operations support system interfaces of its last-mileproviders, one of the common challenges to efficient and speedy DSLprovisioning.
