Asia Global Crossing Accelerates Trans-Pacific IP Transit Backbone

📅 - In order to keep pace with demand for IP transit service between Asia and the U.S., AsiaGlobal Crossing (asiaglobalcrossing.com) has increased the capacity allocation of its trans-Pacific IPbackbone for IP transit service. Increasing capacityfrom 2.5 Gbps to 3.7 Gbps, Asia Global Crossing saysit has the fastest IP backbone dedicated to IP transitservices in Japan.

This upgrade adds 1.2 Gbps to the IP backbone acrossthe southern route of Pacific Crossing (PC-1), AsiaGlobal Crossing's trans-Pacific subsea system. InDecember 2000, Asia Global Crossing increased the IPbackbone across the northern route from 622 Mbps to2.5 Gbps. With the total now at 3.7 Gbps, IP transitcapacity has increased sixfold over the previous year.
The upgrade gives Asia Global Crossing the capacity toaccommodate many carriers and ISPs as currentcustomers, such as Usen and Yahoo!BB, are using morebandwidth than originally anticipated. The more robustbackbone also allows for the increase in trafficoutbound from Asia as broadband penetration in Japanand the Asian region as a whole continues to advance.
Additional IP transit capacity also allows Asia GlobalCrossing to better target enterprises that haveinternational IP services needs as it can offer highlycompetitive rates for Internet connectivity services.
Asia Global Crossing uses high-speed STM-4c lines tostructure its IP backbone. The bandwidth of each lineis larger for easier transmission of large-volumedata. In the past, it was common for IP backbones tobe structured by binding together STM-1 or slower lines.
