Globaltron Announces Acquisition of Lima's Nexus Comunicaciones

📅 August 30, 2001 - Globaltron Corporation(globaltron.net) announced yesterday that it has completed the acquisition of Peruvian telecommunications operator Nexus Comunicaciones S.A, expanding its presence in South America.

"This acquisition will allow Globaltron to facilitatelong distance calls from the U.S. to Peru and fromPeru to anywhere in the world," David Sloan,Globaltron chair, said. "The timing of the acquisitionalso is crucial as new telecommunications rules willsoon allow for more competition among long distanceservice providers."
The acquisition of Nexus will give Globaltron acompetitive position with the implementation of a newrule allowing consumers in Peru to select theirdomestic and/or international long distance operatoron a "call per call" basis from any telephone. Nexushas obtained a long distance operator identificationnumber to allow any telephone user to select Nexus fortheir domestic or international long distance calls.
Nexus is licensed by Peru's Ministry of Transports,Communications, Housing and Construction to providedomestic and international long distancetelecommunications services in the country. Nexus isalso licensed to operate satellite stations in Peruand has obtained permits for five teleports (Lima,Cuzco, Arequipa, Chiclayo and Piura).
Globaltron announced in May that its majority ownedsubsidiary, Globaltron Brazil Ltda., was granted aSpecialized Limited Service license by the Braziliangovernment to offer telephony and data servicesthroughout the country. Globaltron hastelecommunications points of presence providing longdistance service in Sao Paulo, Rio De Janeiro, BeloHorizonte, Curitiba and Recife and is licensed toprovide high-speed data transmissions for corporatecustomers in Brazil.
