📅 August 31, 2001 - WorldCom (worldcom.com), a leadingglobal business data and Internet communicationsprovider, has been awarded a three-year contract toprovide and manage the Web hosting operations forDiageo (diageo.com), one of the world's leading premium drinks companies.

WorldCom will provide Diageo with data center space,hardware, software, Web hosting services, 24x7 sitemanagement and connectivity to its expansive IPnetwork. Diageo will use WorldCom's Web hostingservices to develop greater worldwide awareness of itsglobal brand of blended whisky, Johnnie Walker, andfamous stout, Guinness, from its operating base in theU.K. Diageo was formed in December 1997 through themerger of Guinness and GrandMet.
"From large, complex Web sites, like Diageo's, to themost elementary online presence, WorldCom offerscomplete fulfillment for any customer's requirements,"said Ron McMurtrie, WorldCom vice president ofe-services. According to a recent survey by the analyst andconsulting company, OVUM, the worldwide market formanaged Web hosting services will increase in valuefrom $4.7 billion in 2001 to more than $27 billion in2006, and will account for 56 percent of the overallWeb hosting market.
WorldCom has enhanced its ability to meet the growingdemand for high-end managed hosting services, such asthose being provided to Diageo, through its alliancewith Digex - a managed hosting and applicationsservice provider in which WorldCom has acquired acontrolling stake.
