📅 - IBM (ibm.com/services) has announced the opening of a new Web hosting center in Tokyo thatfeatures special earthquake-resistant facilitiesbecause of the high number of earthquakes that occurin Japan.
The new center is part of IBM's e-business hostinggrowth in Asia and other parts of the world. Lastmonth, IBM announced that it had signed more than$1billion in new Web hosting customers during thefirst six months of 2001 worldwide. IBM has opened newWeb hosting centers in Shanghai, China, Hong Kong andTaiwan and Buenos Aires, Argentina during the pastfour months, and has an existing center in Tokyo.Worldwide, IBM operates more than 35 e-businesshosting centers around the world.
As in IBM's other hosting centers, the newestTokyo-area center offers services ranging from fullymanaged services to facilities services. IBM will helpcustomers integrate e-business with their currentbusiness systems and business models by providing helpwith Web site startup, e-commerce and applicationhosting solutions, including Enterprise ResourceManagement, Customer Relationship Management andSupply Chain Management.

The new Tokyo-area hosting center featuresstate-of-the art Internet backbone connection,firewall, security and management services, including:
Gigabit Internet access24 hours-a-day, 365 days-a-year support forcustomers' e-business requirements.Security practices, including "ethical hacking" andsecurity diagnosis services. Facilities security, including a beam-sensorsecurity card system and biometric locks.Availability of IBM's server operation architectureto enable customers to easily add equipment to theirhardware infrastructure.
Last month IBM announced 30 new Web hosting servicesthat can be tailored for hosting customers around theworld, including expanded security, retail Web siteassistance and new Linux Web hosting offerings.
