📅 - IBM (ibm.com/smallbusiness) hasannounced the one of the industry's most powerfulsmall business servers that delivers more processingpower, along with self-management technologies, withprices starting at $699.
IBM also announced that eServer x200 and x220 are nowavailable with the new Intel Pentium III-S processorswith 512K cache and a speed of 1.26 Ghz creating apowerful line of entry-level small business servers.
The IBM eServer x200VL is the only system available inthe entry-level space that offers businesses the powerof an 850 MHz Intel Celeron processor and 20 GB IDEstorage. Designed as a general purpose orinterconnected department server, the new x200VLsystem also features IBM Director, an intelligentsystem management program with Project eLizaself-diagnosing and self-healing technologies. ProjecteLiza is IBM's program aimed at creating a world ofself-managing systems and technologies that enhanceperformance.

Project eLiza technologies featured in the new systeminclude Predictive Failure Analysis which enables aserver to self-diagnose potential problems and thenalert IT staff so that they can avoid a potentialserver crash. Also included in the x200VL are SoftwareRejuvenation which can automatically predict andrepair software problems before they occur, and IBMServerGuide software simplifies system set-up andinstallation.
Offering native support for Linux and MicrosoftWindows, as well as support for additional operatingsystems, the IBM eServer x200VL gives customers theflexibility to choose their operating systems.
In addition, IBM is offering small business customersan integrated networking solution with Microsoft SmallBusiness Server 2000 preloaded on the x220 and x232.This solution offers enterprise level productsdesigned specifically for small business and includesMicrosoft Windows 2000, Exchange Server 2000 and SQLServer 2000, plus Windows 2000 Server-based solutionsfor e-mail, fax, databases, and secure, sharedInternet access. Small businesses can also use theoptional IBM and SBS 2000 ServicePac which offersincident-based support for SBS 2000 and 5/24 telephonesupport.
IBM also announced availability of new eServersoftware that enables small to medium-sized businessesto participate in private business-to-businessexchanges, without the need for an e-marketplace.Designed for IBM eServer iSeries products, iSeriesConnect is an integrated software product thatprovides tools, connectivity and catalog functions tohelp mid-sized businesses securely and affordably linktheir core applications to trading partners. IBMiSeries Connect Version 1.1 includes open interfacessupport for point-to-point and private B2B exchanges,providing customers a low-cost alternative toexpensive electronic data interchange (EDI) orcustom-built B2B solutions.
In addition, IBM unveiled the new IBM Fibre TapeAutomation Adapter Card Option, which allows directconnect of SCSI devices into a Fibre Channel Networks.The Fibre Tape Automation Adapter Card Option workswith existing storage area networks and IBM eServerxSeries Linear Tape Open tape automation products toenable serverless backup for data in multiple office locations.
