Global Crossing Selects Nortel to Deliver Global IP Services


📅 - Nortel Networks (nortelnetworks.com) announced yesterday that it has been selected by Global Crossing Ltd. (globalcrossing.com) to provideInternet Protocol service management software for Global Crossing'sworldwide deployment of next generation IP and ATM services.

Based on a software licensing agreement, Nortel Networks will deliverprovisioning software capabilities designed to help Global Crossingaccelerate the delivery of IP-based services. These Operational SupportSystem capabilities will include policy management, order management,service provisioning, network inventory management, service level managementand accounting mediation. Nortel Networks OSS solutions supportpre-integrated, workflow-driven, and directory-based services for its IPnetworking solutions, as well as network devices from other vendors. Theagreement also includes on-going maintenance and support over a three-yearperiod.
"Nortel Networks IP service management capabilities are a key component ofour overall plan to provide businesses with next generation IP applicationsand services, particularly IP-VPNs, on a global scale," said Robert L.Barrett, CIO, Global Crossing. "Nortel Networks software will allow us tocentrally control all aspects of our IP services roll-out, from configuringand provisioning the service, to policy and service level management, to IPbilling mediation. Nortel Networks ability to offer a pre-integrated set ofIP-centric service management capabilities will help us accelerate our timeto market and time to profitability for new services."

Nortel Networks IP service management software will enable centralized,multi-service support for a variety of IP-based service offerings, includingMPLS, CPE-based IPSec and Network-based IPSec VPNs, as well as positionGlobal Crossing to support future dedicated Internet access services. Thesesolutions will be integrated with Global Crossing operations and businesssupport systems and technologies, providing flexibility for easier andfaster service delivery and reducing costs across multi-vendor networks.Accenture will manage implementation of the Global Crossing system in aphased program.
