📅 - Electronic Data Systems Corp. (eds.com), the second-largestU.S. computer services company, won a five-year contract valued at $132million to improve the U.S. Army Recruiting Information Support System Website (goarmy.com), the company stated yesterday.

EDS will provide information services from its Fort Knox, Kentucky datacenter and offices in Virginia and Indianapolis to the recruiting service,allowing the Army to sign up new recruits online from anywhere in the U.S.
Under the new contract, EDS will help the U.S. Army Recruiting Command movetoward a paperless system that uses electronic signatures and electronicrecords management to facilitate faster processing of new Army personnel. Inaddition, EDS will provide continued information technology and systemssupport.
Earlier in Oct., EDS beat out rivals IBM Corp. and Computer Sciences Corp.for a $6.9 billion, fixed-price contract to build and maintain a computernetwork linking sailors and U.S. Marines in the continental U.S., Hawaii,Alaska, Puerto Rico and Guantanamo Bay, Cuba.
On the same day, EDS also said it signed a five-year $18 million deal withHouston-based Commerciant (commerciant.com) to provide wireless check and credit card processing services. EDS will provide realtime, point- of-sale, credit card acceptance and processing for transactions from Commerciant business customers using hand-held devices to finalize sales. EDS also will provide electronic check clearing services for Commerciant's MobilScape check processing system that transforms paper checks into electronic check payments by scanning checks, digitizing customers' signatures and printing customer receipts at the point of sale.
