Nov, 2001 : UK's Office of the e-Envoy Selects Loudcloud for Hosting

(loudcloud.com -> hostinger.com) announced yesterday that the Office of the e-Envoy (e-envoy.gov.uk) will outsource the Internet operations of ukonline.gov.uk, to Loudcloud. Ukonline.gov.uk, a keycomponent of the Government's drive to deliver all government serviceselectronically, will be hosted using Loudcloud's suite of managed servicespowered by its Opsware automation technology.

The OeE, a part of the UK Government's Cabinet Office, is responsible fordriving the government's online agenda. The goal of the UK Online campaignis to enable everyone who wants it to have access to the Internet by 2005,make all UK Government services available electronically by 2005, and tomake the UK the best environment in the world for e-commerce.Ukonline.gov.uk is a key component to meeting these targets as it providessociety with a single access point to all of the UK government's servicesand information. The combination of Loudcloud's managed services and itsOpsware automation technology, which automates many of the tasks associatedwith running a major Web site, creates a reliable foundation that will powerukonline.gov.uk.

Loudcloud will provide the UK Government with all of the components requiredto create and maintain a world-class Web site including: site architecture,hardware and software selection, co-location, network connectivity, ongoingmanagement and services, and the ability to automatically add bandwidth andservices as the site grows. These services are enabled by Loudcloud's uniqueOpsware automation technology and backed by Loudcloud's industry-leadingservice level agreement that ensures 24x7x365 service.

A single Web address gives access to all UK Government information andservices online, 24 hours a day, 365 days a year. The site was launched inDec. 2000 and regular enhancements are made to improve content and increasefunctionality. Once fully integrated, using ukonline.gov.uk in conjunctionwith the Government Gateway, it will be possible to carry out onlinetransactions, like registering a birth online or submitting a tax returnelectronically from a single point of access.
